Stephen G. Slade, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist and a pioneer in the field of refractive and cataract surgery. Dr. Slade was one of the first surgeons in North America to perform cataract surgery using Crystalens intraocular lens implants. In addition, he presented Crystalens to the FDA for approval and taught the technique to other surgeons. In recognition of his outstanding surgical performance, Dr. Slade's peers have named him one of the "Best Doctors," "Best Doctors in America," "Top Opinion Leaders" and "Top Texas Doctors." He has received many awards, including the Barraquer Award, one of the most prestigious awards given by the American Academy of Ophthalmology ⁄ International Society of Refractive Surgery, the largest peer group of ophthalmologists. In addition, Dr. Slade has been featured by several media outlets, including CBS News, ABC News, NBC News, PBS, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek.

Dr. Slade and his surgical team specialize in cataract surgery. He begins the procedure by creating a small incision in the cornea. Then, he uses sophisticated ultrasound technology to break apart the clouded lens through a process called phacoemulsification. He carefully extracts the lens segments and replaces the clouded lens with an implant that is specifically chosen for the patient. The new lenses, such as the Crystalens and AcrySof ReSTOR, can reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses after surgery.
In addition, Slade and Baker Vision Center offers LASIK and IntraLASIK with advanced wavefront-guided technology. In fact, Dr. Slade was one of the first doctors in North America to perform LASIK along with Stephen Brint, and has the nation's longest experience with IntraLase, all-laser LASIK. Dr. Slade is a "surgeon's surgeon" and has operated on many of his fellow eye surgeons.
