Allan M. Robbins, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery. Dr. Robbins is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and one of the first eye surgeons to participate in the implantation of intraocular lens implants (IOLs) during cataract surgery. He specializes in advanced cataract surgery procedures, including phacoemulsification and "no-stitch" cataract surgery.
Dr. Robbins uses the latest technologies to ensure maximum comfort and quality vision correction results. He begins the cataract surgery procedure by numbing the eyes with anesthetic eye drops. Next, he creates a tiny incision on the surface of the cornea through which he breaks up the cataract and suctions it out with an ultrasonic probe, a process known as phacoemulsification. Once all cataract particles have been removed, Dr. Robbins gently inserts the intraocular lens implant and places it in its permanent position where the natural lens had been. The incision is closed by the natural outward pressure of the eye, which ensures minimum discomfort and recuperation time.
For patients undergoing cataract surgery, Dr. Robbins offers the latest, state-of-the-art IOLs, including multifocal ReZoom and AcrySof ReSTOR lenses, as well as the accommodating IOL known as Crystalens. By utilizing these sophisticated, man-made implants, Dr. Robbins has the ability to treat nearsightedness and age-related farsightedness, also known as presbyopia or loss of accommodation. Cataract surgery patients who also suffer from astigmatism may be good candidates for the Toric IOL or limbal relaxing incisions (LRIs), microscopic incisions on the surface of the cornea which relieve mild to moderate symptoms of astigmatism.Email the Surgeon
In addition to offering cataract surgery, Dr. Robbins was one of the first surgeons to introduce LASIK laser vision correction to the Rochester area. In fact, he was the principal investigator for the VISX laser during the United States clinical trials. He offers custom wavefront-guided LASIK, as well as PRK, Epi-LASIK, corneal ring segments surgery, and refractive lens exchange (RLE), as well as general eye care services.
