Philip J. Penrose, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist treating patients at Eye MD Monterey in Monterey, California. Eye MD Monterey is a full service eye care facility comprised of highly skilled, compassionate medical and surgical staff offering a range of vision correction procedures, including cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs). Under the leadership of Dr. Penrose, the staff at Eye MD Monterey strives to provide each Monterey eye care patient with the highest quality medical and surgical care in a warm and welcoming environment.
Dr. Penrose and his team perform the state-of-the-art "micro-incision" cataract surgery with premium IOLs. The procedure begins with a self-sealing incision in the eye, through which the eye's cataract-diseased crystalline lens is extracted. This step involves the use of the advanced phacoemulsification technique, an ultrasound device that breaks up and irrigates the eye's natural lens for easy removal. The lens is replaced with a premium IOL, a lens implant designed to restore clear vision following cataract surgery. Eye MD Monterey offers an array of sophisticated IOLs, including Crystalens, AcrySof ReSTOR and astigmatism-correcting AcrySof Toric lenses.Email the Surgeon
Cataract surgery is a painless refractive procedure performed under topical anesthesia. Patients who undergo cataract surgery under the care of Dr. Penrose and his team are able to achieve improved vision at multiple distances and, in some cases, greatly reduce their dependence on daily eyewear.
In addition to cataract surgery, Eye MD Monterey offers LASIK and PRK vision correction procedures, glaucoma treatments, management of diabetic eye diseases and general optical services.
