Sidney A. Martin, MD, FAAO, Lawrence Zweibel, MD, FACS, FAAO, John Mauro, DO, and Jeffrey L. Martin, MD, FACS, FAAO, are board-certified ophthalmologists who provide a full spectrum of eye care services and vision correction procedures at their state-of-the-art facility, North Shore Eye Care. Dr. Sidney Martin started his career as a medical officer in the United States Navy and has been practicing ophthalmology for more than 40 years. Dr. Zweibel has been serving Smithtown and Long Island patients for more than 25 years. Dr. Jeffrey Martin is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook. In addition, they have been featured in "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area," published by Castle Connolly, a healthcare research and information company.
The surgeons at North Shore Eye Care perform the latest eye surgery methods and utilize leading-edge technologies to diagnose and treat a number of complex conditions, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and eyelid disorders. When performing cataract surgery they use the advanced “no-needle,” “no-stitch” technique. They begin by making a small self-sealing incision at the edge of the cornea and, using the phacoemulsification technique, remove the clouded lens (cataract). The natural lens is then replaced by an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) implant. North Shore Eye Care offers a number of premium IOLs, including AcrySof ReSTOR, ReZoom, Crystalens and Tecnis. In fact, North Shore Eye Care is known as the “Crystalens Cataract Surgery Center of Excellence.” IOLs used by North Shore Eye Care surgeons are uniquely designed to mimic the eye’s natural lens, improve vision at all distances and give patients freedom from traditional contact lenses and eyeglasses. The practice also offers toric lenses to correct the vision of patients who have astigmatism.
In addition, the cataracts Long Island eye surgeons at North Shore Eye Care offer LASIK laser vision correction surgery, photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), Epi LASIK, as well as general ophthalmology services. Anti-aging products, including Botox, are available for patients looking to reduce wrinkles and improve their facial appearance.
