Cataract by Medownick at Medownick Laser Clinic
185 Hoddle Street (Cnr. Bridge Road)
Mark Medownick, MD, FAAO, FRACS, is a specialist eye surgeon who is considered an innovator in the field of vision correction. He was one of local pioneers of small incision, stitch-free cataract surgery, a procedure involving an advanced technique known as phacoemulsification. Dr. Medownick dedicated 12 years to the pursuit of advanced general and ophthalmological training and has been helping patients achieve clear vision for more than 25 years. Over the course of his career he has studied under the mentorship of some of the world's leading refractive surgeons, including Dr. Miles Galin, one of the founding members of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. His constant quest to provide his patients with the latest in cataract surgery has earned him a reputation as one of the most trusted eye surgeons in Melbourne.
Dr. Medownick and his surgical partners at Medownick Laser Clinic are proud to offer patients the patented Medownick Low Stress Cataract Surgery on a regular basis, a state-of-the-art procedure that requires a self-sealing micro-incision without the need for injections or stitches. We begin the procedure with a technique known as phacoemulsification, which involves a high-speed ultrasound machine that breaks up the clouded lens. The cataract is then carefully suctioned out of the eye and replaced with a premium intraocular lens (IOL) implant. At Medownick Laser Clinic we offer the most sophisticated IOLs, including ReSTOR, ReZoom, Crystalens and Tecnis, the last of which is specifically designed to correct astigmatism. Cataract by Medownick is performed at a leading-edge Day Theatre Suite located at the renowned Epworth Hospital or in a boutique private hospital.
Dr. Medownick also performs a wide range of laser eye surgery vision correction procedures, including LASIK without a flap, LASEK and PRK, as well as a number of advanced eye care treatments such as refractive lensectomy, implantable contact lenses and presbyopia laser treatments.
