Dr. Ivan Mac and Dr. Dara Khalatbari are both board-certified ophthalmologists who perform cataract surgery with the option of premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs) for clearer vision. Both surgeons operate out of Metrolina Eye Associates, a full-service eye care practice with locations in North and South Carolina. Dr. Mac has been named one of the nation's top cataract and refractive surgeons by the Consumers' Research Council of America. Dr. Khalatbari is a specialist in "no-stitch, no-needle" cataract surgery, and has been asked to present at numerous ophthalmology meetings across the nation.
Drs. Mac and Khalatbari offer traditional cataract surgery (using a blade) and laser cataract surgery, using the advanced and painless "no-needle, no-stitch" surgical method that requires no injections or stitches. As a surgical option for either procedure, patients have the choice of premium IOLs that include monofocal IOLs (for either clearer near or distance vision), multifocal IOLs (for both clearer near and distance vision) and toric IOLs (for the correction of astigmatism). Using one of these IOLs, patients can achieve not only cataract-free vision, but clearer vision than even before cataracts!
Along with cataract surgery, Drs. Mac and Khalatbari also offer LASIK surgery, general and pediatric eye care and eyelid surgery at their Metrolina Eye Associates locations.

The "no-stitch, no-needle" cataract surgery that Drs. Mac and Khalatbari offer at Metrolina Eye Associates is a laser-assisted procedure that can be completed in less than 10 minutes. The procedure is painless, and involves tiny incisions precisely made using the most advanced laser technology. The laser is then used to break up the cataract, which is then easily washed out of the eye. This easy, pain-free procedure requires no uncomfortable injections or stitches, and requires almost no downtime. Patients are free to go about their daily lives within a day of surgery, and can expect sharp-focus vision within a week.
"I recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Khalatbari. Dr. K put me at ease both before and during my surgery. I chose to have a Toric lens implanted in my right eye. My results were fantastic! I no longer need to wear glasses, and my vision is the best it has ever been. I am actually looking forward to the surgery on my left eye (I can't believe I said that)!" A.K.
"I am 75 years old and I have worn glasses for 33 years. The lens I chose was the 'multifocal lens.' This choice allows me to see both near AND far WITHOUT glasses. The entire process only took about fifteen minutes. I felt NO discomfort during or after surgery. If I had known how wonderful the difference would be, I would never have waited so long to have this procedure done. Sometimes I reach up to pull my glasses off at night and I realize I don't have glasses on. Distant and near vision is more clear and brighter. The following routines of my daily life have immensely improved without glasses: reading, comfort to do outside work. I would highly recommend Dr. Khalatbari, his staff and the 'multifocal lens.'" "I just want to say 'thank you' for the services that I have received from Metrolina Eye Associates. It was necessary for me to see an eye specialist and my sister recommended Metrolina since she had been very pleased with the services. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. K who informed me of my situation with cataracts. Dr. K took time to explain everything in detail and made me feel very comfortable. The cataract surgery for both eyes went great. Dr. K explained the choice of lens available and I opted to go with the Restor lens. This was a great choice for me. I have not worn glasses since my first eye surgery. It is wonderful!" B.H.
