Having your eye surgery with Mr. Maurino at Moorfields Eye Hospital gives you the peace of mind that your surgery will be carried out to give you the best chance of having a superb result.
Dr. Maurino performs sophisticated "micro-incision" cataract surgery with advanced intraocular lens implants (IOLs). He starts cataract surgery by using femtosecond laser to make an incision in the eye that will later naturally heal without the need for stitches. The cataract-diseased eye lens is mainly removed by laser and is replaced with an IOL to restore clear vision after surgery. Dr. Maurino offers several types of IOLs, including astigmatism-correcting toric IOLs and multifocal IOLs that allow patients to see clearly at several distances.
Cataract surgery is not generally painful, given that as it is performed with the use of topical anesthesia. Patients who undergo cataract surgery under the care of Dr. Maurino are able to achieve improved vision at multiple distances, with the use of multifocal IOLs. In some cases, they are able to decrease or forgo their daily dependence on spectacles or contact lenses.
In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Maurino offers LASIK, LASEK, refractive lens exchange (RLE), implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery, corneal transplantation and glaucoma surgery, as well as alternative vision correction treatments.

"It is now nearly one month since Mr. Maurino performed small incision cataract surgery on both my eyes at Moorfields eye hospital. The reception at Moorfields was immaculate, very friendly and most efficient. The first operation was over in minutes, painless and I could see straightaway afterwards. Although I was in some trepidation prior to the first operation, I was positively looking forward to the next one a week later. To put the degree of discomfort into perspective, the worst bit has been putting the anti-inflammatory drops into my eyes for the past four weeks as they sting quite a lot. Well, that's not much to complain about when you consider that I can scuba dive, ski, ride my motorbike and lots of other things without ever having to bother with glasses or contact lenses ever again - not even for reading! Vincenzo Maurino is a very nice man and very good at his job - and I can assure you, the reader, that I am not related to him. Thank you Vincenzo, I hope you will help many more patients over the years and for many more years to come." David H.
"Very nervous before the cataract operation but the anticipation was much worse than actual op. where I felt nothing during the whole procedure. I was sedated but awake enough to see marvellous lights and colours throughout the op! Left eye (where the cataract was worse) was done first. Had a toric lens inserted to correct astigmatism. Procedure was laser-assisted cataract surgery (what I believe is called femto-phako). Within 24 hours of the op, and with a contact lens in my un-operated eye, I was at a party. 36 hours later I was on Hampstead Heath enjoying clear vision and great views! One week later I was back at Moorfields for the second eye. Had opted for blended mono vision as I seemed to cope well with this as a contact lens wearer before cataracts. So, one eye has perfect distance vision and the other is slightly short sighted which means I can see both distance and near without using glasses. Only very occasionally do I use +1 reading glasses for small print. So results seem to be exactly as predicted and after wearing contacts or glasses since I was 11 years old I now need neither. Thank you Mr. Maurino and your team at Moorfields!" Ruth, Designer, London
"I chose Mr. Maurino after doing extensive research on the hospitals, surgeons and approaches to surgery having only one eye. I also sought a second opinion about Mr. Maurino's proposed approach to the surgery and was reassured that he was proposing the surgery that is most likely to lead to a successful outcome. The whole experience from beginning to end was well organized and I was kept informed of what was happening at every stage. The procedure itself was calm and uneventful, and was completed in about 30 minutes under local anaesthetic. After some mild soreness and redness of the eye during the first couple of days, I noticed that my vision was improving every day. It continued to improve for the next month or so, then began to settle down. In a recent eye test, my result was 6/6 with correction. I am once again able to enjoy seeing things with clarity and without glare. Colours are more vivid, objects look sharper, and subtle variations in shade and texture are easily seen. At a professional level, it is now much easier to work with computer screens at a comfortable distance using small fonts in any colour. Night driving, which I previously avoided due to the glare of lights from oncoming traffic, is now completely comfortable. All in all, I would say that the surgery has completely transformed my life in a very positive and enriching way. I would you recommend Mr. Maurino without hesitation for any complex surgery." Farid, Accountant, London
"Dr. Maurino was extremely thorough in the preliminary assessment and highly courteous through the laser treatment. I felt very safe in his care and the result is excellent." John Tarquin T.
