George R. Pronesti, MD, Anthony C. Zacchei, MD, and Michael A. Aronsky, MD, are board-certified ophthalmologists who specialize in cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment and refractive surgery like LASIK and the Visian lens implant. With more than 160,000 successful eye procedures performed, Dr. Pronesti, Dr. Zacchei and Dr. Aronsky have earned recognition as some of the leading eye surgeons in the Philadelphia area. They provide continuing education for area eye doctors, students and residents, and participate in on-going studies to develop the technologies of tomorrow.
By offering the most advanced cataract surgery available, the Kremer cataract specialists are able to eliminate injections and stitches, accelerate recovery times and quickly restore your vision. We can often address other vision disorders while performing your cataract surgery, including astigmatism and near vision problems.
First, we give the patient a mild anesthesia and apply topical anesthetic eye drops to desensitize the eye, a technique pioneered at Kremer Eye Center that eliminates bruising and soreness associated with injections. Patients taking medications such as aspirin and coumadin usually do not need to interrupt their dosage.
Our surgeon then makes a small opening in the eye, dissolves and removes the cataract using ultrasound waves (phacoemulsification), and implants a synthetic lens in its place. With this approach, most routine activities can be resumed in a short period of time. Advanced lens options are available at Kremer Eye Center.
Advanced lens implants can reduce or eliminate your need for reading glasses and/or distance glasses after cataract surgery. Compared to traditional single-focus lens implants, advanced lenses are designed to provide an expanded range of vision. Kremer Eye Center's cataract specialists were among the first in the region to use these advanced lenses, including AcrySof ReSTOR, ReZoom, Crystalens and AcrySof Toric lenses (to correct astigmatism). Your Kremer cataract surgeon will help you choose the best lens for your needs during an in-depth evaluation.
Visian ICLs (implantable collamer lenses) procedure corrects mid to high myopia (nearsightedness) for patients who do not qualify for LASIK. Kremer Eye Center surgeons have 10 years of experience with this type of procedure, having implanted a similar lens under an FDA protocol with great success. Kremer Eye Center continues to be at the forefront of this leading-edge technology and is proud to be one of six national surgeon-training sites for the Visian ICL procedure.
In addition to cataract surgery, Kremer specialists provide LASIK surgery, advanced glaucoma treatment, ophthalmic plastic surgery and Intacs corneal implants to treat keratoconus.
At Kremer, our focus is always on what is best for each individual patient. From our staff to our technicians, to our cataract specialists, everyone is here to make you feel comfortable and cared for every step of the way.

Email the Surgeon"I had cataracts for years before deciding to have surgery. My cataracts meant massive vision loss, bad cloudiness, and color distortion. I never knew my neighbor across the street had a number on his house because I couldn't differentiate them from the background color, and yet I had 20/20 vision with contact lenses.
My eye doctor recommended Kremer Eye Center, and I was amazed at how the entire staff went out of their way for me. Dr. Pronesti and the staff were all very professional, very friendly and outgoing. Everything was done to keep me comfortable, relaxed and informed on the day of surgery.
On the way home after cataract surgery, I remember saying to my husband 'I could have driven if I had to.' I had gone from a -8 contact lens in my right eye to 20/20. Most importantly, colors are much more vibrant now. I am now seeing leaves on a tree that's a block away. As a nurse, I drive a lot, sometimes 50 or more miles per day going to people's homes, and the strain on me is so much less now because I can see so clearly.
I would recommend Kremer Eye Center to everyone for cataract surgery." —B.A.
