Bruce J. Ballon, MD, Bruce E. Wietharn, MD, and Natalia V. Bajenova, MD, are leading Everett cataract surgeons who are certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ballon was the first surgeon in Washington to implant the ReZoom multifocal intraocular lens. Dr. Wietharn is a Fellow of the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, specializing in cornea and refractive surgery. Dr. Bajenova is an attentive laser eye surgeon who speaks fluent Russian. The eye surgeons at the Harman Eye Clinic understand that providing excellence in vision correction treatment and patient care is never an accident. Excellence is achieved by insisting on the highest standards of operations and performance. Together, the ophthalmologists at the Harman Eye Clinic set the gold standard not only in cataract surgery but in customized, bladeless LASIK surgery and other vision correction procedures as well.
Drs. Ballon, Wietharn and Bajenova perform leading-edge "micro-incision, no-stitch" cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs). They begin cataract surgery by making a miniscule, self-sealing incision in the eye. They use this incision to access the cataract-diseased eye lens. During a step called "phacoemulsification," the Everett cataract surgeons use ultrasound energy to fragment the cataractous (cloudy) eye lens before flushing or suctioning out the pieces from the eye. They then replace the cataract-diseased eye lens with an IOL to restore clear eyesight after the procedure. The Harman Eye Clinic offers a variety of advanced IOLs, including Tecnis multifocal IOLs that allow patients to see clearly at multiple distances and toric IOLs to correct astigmatism, among other lens options.
Cataract surgery is a refractive procedure performed under topical anesthesia, so it is completely painless. Patients of the Harman Eye Clinic are able to achieve dramatic improvement in vision at several distances and are often able to decrease their daily reliance on prescription eyewear — if not eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses completely.
Aside from cataract surgery, the ophthalmologists at the Harman Eye Clinic also offer bladeless CustomVue LASIK, PRK, refractive lens exchange (RLE), glaucoma treatment and many other eye care treatments.
