William Goldstein, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than 20 years of experience treating Greater Detroit cataract surgery patients. The Consumers' Research Council of America recently recognized him as one of "America's Top Ophthalmologists." The laser cataract surgery specialist is committed to staying current with the latest advancements in vision correction technology and treatment. As a forerunner in his field, in 2005, Dr. Goldstein was the first eye surgeon throughout the entire state of Michigan to perform implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery, and he was also one of the first ophthalmologists in Michigan to perform LASIK surgery. Hundreds of other surgeons, nurses and medical professionals trust him to perform their laser cataract surgery and other vision correction procedures. Dr. Goldstein is renowned for his caring bedside manner and meticulous surgical skill, providing patients with optimal vision correction results. He has become known as "The Doctor That Doctors Trust."
The Greater Detroit cataract surgeon performs "micro-incision, stitch-free, patch-free" cataract surgery with either traditional or advanced-technology intraocular lens implants (IOLs). Dr. Goldstein starts the 10-minute cataract procedure by making a miniscule, self-sealing incision in the eye. Using an advanced technique called "phacoemulsification," the laser eye surgeon employs ultrasonic energy to break up the cataract-diseased (cloudy) eye lens before gently flushing or suctioning the pieces from the eye. He replaces the cloudy natural lens with an IOL to restore clear vision after surgery. Laser Eye Care Center offers a range of IOL options, including advanced IOLs such as Crystalens, which simultaneously treat age-related presbyopia (characterized by the need for reading glasses) and cataracts, and Tecnis multifocal IOLs, which allow the patient to see clearly at multiple distances.
Cataract surgery is a painless refractive procedure performed under topical anesthesia, administered in the form of eye drops. Dr. Goldstein's Greater Detroit cataract surgery patients achieve improved vision at multiple distances and, in some cases, no longer need to rely on prescription glasses or contact lenses to see clearly, especially with the use of advanced IOLs.
Aside from cataract surgery, Laser Eye Care Center in the Detroit area offers LASIK, PRK and implantable contact lens (ICL) vision correction procedures. Dr. Goldstein also provides comprehensive eye care services, including diabetic eye care, dry eye treatment, glaucoma management and others.
