What is a LenSx® laser?
The LenSx® is a femtosecond laser, which emits cool pulses to perform customized laser surgery to exacting specifications that are generally not attainable with traditional eye surgery. For nearly a decade, femtosecond lasers have helped surgeons perform LASIK with unparalleled precision and accuracy. Designed to revolutionize key steps in the cataract procedure, the LenSx® laser now allows surgeons to perform advanced cataract surgery that is more precise, predictable and reproducible.
Why did The Eye Associates begin utilizing the LenSx® laser for cataract surgery?
The Eye Associates has always been a leading innovator in cataract surgery, and we pride ourselves on having the most surgically advanced technology. More doctors choose us for themselves and their patients because this technology, combined with our seasoned surgical team, translates to greater precision and outstanding outcomes.
What does the LenSx® laser do?
LenSx® automates the most challenging steps of traditional cataract surgery, such as performing corneal incisions, opening the capsule, and softening and breaking up the cataract. Traditional cataract surgery involves the creation of several small incisions made manually with a blade. With LenSx®, the surgeon can create those incisions with the laser, resulting in a significantly higher degree of precision. Also, the advanced imaging systems provide both real-time video as well as three-dimensional visualization, enabling the surgeons to customize a treatment plan that is individually tailored for your eyes.
More About Cataracts
The Eye Associates offers the latest surgical techniques and utilizes state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat cataracts (the clouding of the eye's natural lens). The surgeons of The Eye Associates use the "no-stitch" cataract surgery technique. This method involves a small incision in the eye, which is naturally sealed by the eye's own pressure, eliminating the need for sutures. The incision is used to access the clouded lens (the cataract), which is broken up and extracted through a process known as phacoemulsification, using the advanced technology of the Infiniti Vision System. Once removed, the cloudy natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens implant (IOL). The Eye Associates offers a basic monofocal lens, as well as the high-tech lifestyle lens implants, such as the ReSTOR, Tecnis, Crystalens and AcrySof® Toric IOL. High-tech IOLs allow patients to change focus from near to intermediate to distance vision, thereby allowing patients to be less dependent on glasses. In addition, The Eye Associates offers LASIK and clear lens replacement (CLR) surgery for patients wishing to be glasses-free but are not yet ready for cataract surgery. Call (800) 941-8114 for FREE CLR or LASIK screenings.
The Eye Associates' surgery center is state licensed and Medicare approved. It also has an advanced accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), which is given only to those centers with superior patient-care ratings. The AAAHC Certificate of Accreditation demonstrates an organization's commitment to provide safe, high-quality services to patients.
