Christopher W. Sturbaum, MD, and Mark A. Kontos, MD, are board-certified ophthalmologists and colleagues at Empire Eye Physicians, a well-established eye care practice that has been serving cataract surgery patients throughout the Inland Northwest for more than 60 years. Dr. Sturbaum has an additional year of fellowship training in corneal and LASIK procedures. He is a regional leader in LASIK surgery and provides consultations for corneal conditions and state-of-art corneal and cataract surgery. Dr. Sturbaum performed the first sutureless corneal transplant in the region and is a recognized leader with years of experience in specialty lenses for cataract surgery and ICLs (implantable contact lenses). Dr. Kontos is a superb eye surgeon who has taught refractive surgery procedures to fellow eye physicians nationwide. He is the only eye surgeon in the region to be named among the top 5 percent of LASIK surgeons in the country by VISX, Inc., the manufacturer of VISX excimer laser technologies for laser eye surgery. Drs. Sturbaum and Kontos provide Spokane cataract surgery patients with the highest quality eye care in a safe, comfortable and caring environment.
The eye surgeons of Empire Eye physicians offer the advanced, no-stitch, no-shot, micro-incision cataract surgery with intraocular lens implants (IOLs). This procedure begins with a self-sealing incision on the surface of the eye under local anesthesia. Next, the eye's cataract-diseased lens is broken up and suctioned out of the eye through an ultrasonic device in a technique called phacoemulsification. Drs. Sturbaum and Kontos then replace the eye's lens with a premium lens implant to restore clear vision following surgery. Empire Eye Physicians offers an array of premium IOLs, including Tecnis Multifocal, AcrySof Toric (astigmatism correcting), ReSTOR, ReZoom and Crystalens.
In addition to cataract surgery, the eye surgeons of Empire Eye Physicians perform an array of vision correction procedures and eye care treatments, including iLASIK (bladeless LASIK), PRK, implantable contact lenses, corneal transplant and dry eye treatment and surgeries. Drs. Kontos and Sturbaum are also qualified to perform eyelid lift surgery (blepharoplasty) and administer Botox injections.
To schedule a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Sturbaum or Dr. Kontos and learn more about your vision correction options, please contact Empire Eye Physicians at (888) 791-3403.
