Cataract surgery is a commonly performed outpatient procedure that significantly enhances the vision. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision in the eye and inserts a surgical instrument to break up the cataractous lens. The pieces of the lens are gently extracted from the eye and the lens is replaced with an artificial lens called an IOL. The IOL (intraocular lens) is designed to improve the patient's vision after surgery. The doctors will determine the best kind of IOL to use based on the patient's unique vision needs.

Drs. Wade and Mayo are two of the first surgeons in Houston and in the country to offer laser cataract surgery with the LenSx femtosecond laser. Using a laser improves patient comfort, makes recovery time shorter and greatly enhances the accuracy of the treatment.

Cataract surgery is a quick procedure — the patient usually leaves the surgicenter within a few hours of treatment. Full recovery lasts several days. Drs. Wade and Mayo coordinate post-operative care, ensuring that the patient progresses normally after surgery and achieves the desired outcome.

Drs. Wade and Mayo are also talented Houston LASIK surgeons; collectively they have performed more than 55,000 LASIK procedures. Dr. Wade is also one of the nation's top Visian ICL surgeons. Along with their team, the doctors treat other types of eye diseases and disorders as well, including glaucoma, dry eyes and keratoconus.

"Dr. Wade recently did my cataract surgery, and I LOVE, LOVE my new vision! I decided to go with the ReSTOR lens, and now I can see all distances, even close up (I haven't been able to read a menu without reading glasses for 30 years). The staff was great and I really appreciate how everyone helped me understand the process. I highly recommend Dr. Wade and his staff!"
