F. Michael Cornell, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been performing cataract surgery for more than 30 years. He treats patients at Visium Eye Institute, a leading-edge eye care practice affiliated with LasikPlus. Dr. Cornell is a retired United States Army Colonel, in which capacity he served for more than 22 years. During this time, Dr. Cornell led the cataract surgery residency program and was honored with the Legion of Merit Medal for his contributions to the field. He is a former vice president of the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Over the course of his prolific career, Dr. Cornell has successfully performed more than 5,000 cataract surgeries. He is widely recognized as a skilled and extremely compassionate eye surgeon who treats each patient with dignity, respect and his undivided attention.
Dr. Cornell uses modern surgical techniques to perform cataract lens replacement surgery with premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs). He begins the procedure using an instrument about the size of a pen tip. He then extracts the eye's clouded lens using either high-frequency sound waves or pulses of fluid. Once the eye's lens is extracted, Dr. Cornell carefully places an artificial lens in the eye to provide patients with clear vision at various distances. Dr. Cornell offers an array of sophisticated IOLs to enhance image quality and correct near, intermediate and distance vision as well as astigmatism.
In addition to cataract surgery, Dr. Cornell offers laser vision correction, including LASIK, and has performed more than 16,000 such procedures. Dr. Cornell's partnership with LasikPlus allows him to give each vision correction or cataract patient outstanding quality of care and surgical outcomes.
