Michael J. Collins, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed advanced fellowship training in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. This advanced training makes Dr. Collins uniquely qualified in Southwest Florida and allows him to provide superior visual results and enhance patients’ quality of life. Dr. Collins has performed thousands of refractive and cataract surgery procedures at his Fort Myers and Bonita Springs offices and has been acknowledged nationally for his outstanding surgical skills. In recognition of his extensive experience and knowledge of ophthalmology, he has been chosen to be a reviewer for the medical journal Cornea, as well as the Journal of Refractive Surgery. He is also regularly invited to speak at national and international ophthalmology conventions as an expert in the field. Since 2004, Dr. Collins has been recognized as one of America's Top Ophthalmologists by the Consumers' Research Council of America.
Dr. Collins specializes in "no-needle, no-stitch, no-patch" cataract surgery with phacoemulsification and uses the most advanced techniques and technology in Southwest Florida. He begins the procedure by applying anesthetic eye drops and creating a tiny, self-sealing incision in the eye. Then, he breaks apart the clouded lens with ultrasound waves and extracts it through the incision. Next, he replaces the lens with a premium lifestyle intraocular lens implant (IOL). He offers several top-of-the-line premium IOLs, including Crystalens and ReSTOR. Crystalens is an accommodating lens that gently moves with the eye's muscles to improve the patient's ability to change focus from near to distant objects, while ReSTOR lenses improve nearsightedness and age-related farsightedness (presbyopia).
In addition to advanced cataract surgery, Dr. Collins offers LASIK and a range of corneal surgeries, as well as dry eye treatment, comprehensive eye care, Botox injections and Latisse.Email the Surgeon
