Randy Burks, MD, FACS, and Raymond P. Gailitis, MD, FACS, are board-certified, fellowship-trained eye surgeons who comprise the vision correction team of Ophthalmology Consultants, a full-service facility offering the full spectrum of vision treatments, including cataract surgery, LASIK, corneal transplants, oculoplastic surgery and comprehensive eye care. Dr. Burks is a pioneer in the South Florida area combining refractive surgery with small incision, no stitch cataract surgery, helping patients see and read without glasses. Dr. Gailitis has been performing cataract surgery for more than 20 years. He specializes in micro-incision cataract surgery with advanced technology implants. Drs. Burks and Gailitis both have participated in FDA clinical trials of advanced treatments for vision correction surgery. In recognition of their excellent surgical skills, they have been asked to appear on locally and nationally televised programs and radio shows, and they have been featured in numerous print publications.
Drs. Burks and Gailitis strive to provide outstanding eye care treatments and optimal vision correction results for each patient. When performing cataract surgery they use the advanced micro-incision technique, which promotes higher safety and patient comfort. They begin the procedure by creating a small, self-sealing incision in the eye. Next, they use a technique known as phacoemulsification to break up and extract the eye's clouded lens. The same incision is then used for the insertion of an intraocular lens implant (IOL), which allows post-surgery cataract patients to achieve clear vision at multiple distances. Drs. Burks and Gailitis offer a wide range of sophisticated lens implants, including AcrySof ReSTOR, Tecnis Multifocal, AcrySof Toric and Crystalens. Having several in-house lasers, they are then able to fine-tune the outcome, if necessary.
