Farooq Ashraf, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained refractive surgeon offering LASIK and cataract surgery in Atlanta, Johns Creek and overseas in Dubai. As an expert in the use of laser technology for refractive surgery, it was only natural that Dr. Ashraf would adopt the use of laser technology for cataract surgery as well. In doing so, Dr. Ashraf became one of the first surgeons in Georgia to perform laser cataract surgery. At the Atlanta Vision Institute, Dr. Ashraf and his staff have extensive expertise in a wide range of vision correction treatments, including traditional as well as laser cataract surgery with premium intraocular lens implants (IOLs), both of which restore clear sight while satisfying patients' unique lifestyle needs. The team at The Atlanta Vision Institute is committed to providing patients with exceptional eye care at an outstanding value.
Dr. Ashraf and his staff at The Atlanta Vision Institute perform leading-edge "micro-incision, no-stitch" cataract surgery with premium IOLs. The Atlanta cataract surgeon starts the procedure by making a self-sealing incision in the eye, through which he removes the eye's cataractous, or cloudy, crystalline lens. To facilitate the removal of the cataract-diseased lens, Dr. Ashraf uses a technique called "phacoemulsification." During this step, the eye surgeon uses an ultrasound device to fragment the cloudy lens before flushing or suctioning the pieces from the eye. He replaces the cloudy lens with an IOL to restore clear vision after the procedure. Atlanta Vision Institute offers a wide variety of IOL options, including premium multifocal IOLs that allow patients to see clearly at multiple distances, astigmatism-correcting toric lens implants and several others.
Patients are happy to know that cataract surgery is a painless outpatient procedure performed with the use of topical anesthetic eye drops. At The Atlanta Vision Institute, individuals who have cataract surgery under the care of Dr. Ashraf and his staff are able to achieve improved eyesight at several distances. Often, patients are able to decrease their daily dependence on prescription eyewear dramatically.
Aside from cataract surgery, Dr. Ashraf and his team offer LASIK, PRK, treatment for corneal diseases, glaucoma treatment, dry eye treatment as well as comprehensive eye care services, among many other treatment options.

Following his completion of the fellowship program, Dr. Ashraf remained on the Johns Hopkins University staff as assistant professor of ophthalmology. During this time, he performed vision correction surgery and taught other physicians how to perform refractive surgery and microsurgery prior to relocating to the Atlanta area to pursue private practice.
